Push Begins For Children's Hospital

Joint Press Conf. With Shands Presentation to Children's Cabinet in Tallahassee

Nearly 300 area citizens gathered at Oak Hall School Monday night to share their concern that Gainesville does not yet have a free-standing children's hospital.

The community forum was hosted by the Sebastian Ferrero Foundation, established six months ago by Horst and Luisa Ferrero after their 3-year-old son Sebastian died after a series of medical errors during a routine test at the pediatric clinic of Shands at the University of Florida.

The Ferreros are convinced that if their son had been treated in a facility designed for children, by people who dealt only with children, his death could have been prevented.
